IDA Bermuda Impress In Super Cup Final
IDA Bermuda delivered a battling display in their 3-2 defeat to Scottish side Ross County Academy in the Boys’ Minor Division Bowl final at the Budget Energy Super Cup in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, yesterday [August 1].
Dage Butterfield and Adaj O’Brien scored the goals for IDA Bermuda, who were also named the Most Sporting Team.
Richard Todd, the IDA Bermuda head coach, said: “IDA Bermuda can take pride in the progress they demonstrated over the week participating in the prestigious Super Cup NI tournament.
“With each game they learned more about themselves, and from the opposition.
“Today they played a Ross County team who were determined to reverse the result against IDA Bermuda from last year’s group stage loss.
“Ross County started on the front foot and determined to win balls and press forward with commitment to score.
“They would reap the rewards for their hustle and energy to take a lead midway through the first half.
“The goal seemed to jolt and awaken IDA Bermuda into life, and they responded with immediately scoring from the kick off when Dage Butterfield would beat his marker from the left and score with a shot to the back post.
“With play restarted [in the second half] IDA Bermuda would quickly concede when Ross County again broke behind the right side of defence to restore their lead.
“IDA would make changes, bringing in Adaj O’Brien and Ariche Astwood Simmons to try and insert more impetus into the attack.
“But before IDA could reap any dividends, they would be caught on the counter to fall behind 3-1. Rather than drop heads and give up, IDA demonstrated that they were prepared to fight and battle to the end.
“O’Brien made a surging run through the middle holding off defenders to get through into the box and score and reduce the deficit to 3-2.
In the end time would run out for IDA Bermuda, and Ross County would celebrate wining the Boys’ Minor Division Bowl Championship.
“But IDA coaches and supporters can be proud of the fight and effort shown by the team, and despite not winning the championship they can be proud of being awarded the Most Sporting Team for the week.”
