City Reminds Public: Proper Wheelie Bin Use
The City of Hamilton is reminding “all City property owners, businesses, and residents of their responsibility to properly manage their wheelie bins and household trash.”
A spokesperson said, “City sanitation crews are increasingly seeing bins being left on sidewalks throughout the day after collection. This practice creates obstacles for pedestrians, contributes to unpleasant odors, and detracts from the overall cleanliness of our City.
“To address this, the City is urging the public to:
- Remove wheelie bins promptly once trash has been collected.
- Clean wheelie bins regularly to eliminate odors and discourage pests.
- Seal all trash bags securely before placing them in the bin to prevent leaks.
- Do not use bins as permanent storage for waste. Wheelie bins are designed for collection days only.
“The City stresses that the duty of care does not end when trash is placed out for collection. Proper use and maintenance of wheelie bins are essential to ensuring a clean, safe, and pleasant environment for all who live, work, and visit Hamilton. We appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping to maintain the standards of our City.”

Well, its about time COH!! I’ve noticed since the introduction of these wheelie bins,
our city now looks junkie and unattactive for residents and visitors alike. Alot of these wheelie bins now appear to live permantly on our sidewalks causing obstructions to pedestrians as they sometimes are left in the middle of a sidewalk and cause an obstruction when exiting vehicles. Merchants should be held to task and ensure that their bins are bought in after collection. Thank you COH for highlighting this ongoing eye sore throughout our city.
COH rubbish collectors are at work when most people are still sleeping. They do a thankless but important job and most perform their functions in good humour and efficiently.
City dwellers and businesses should demonstrate at least the same attitude COH rubbish collectors.
