Chatmore International School students placed third at the Daigon Esports Student World Championships in Malta.

A spokesperson said, “In a remarkable display of teamwork, a team of three students from Chatmore International School proudly represented their school and country last week at the Daigon Esports Student World Championships held during Playcon 2025 in Malta, earning an impressive 3rd place finish among more than 100 international teams.

“The students competed in the popular esports title Rocket League after qualifying in May through a series of regional and online rounds, advancing steadily against teams from across the globe to reach the prestigious live finals on the world stage.

“The competition, hosted by Daigon Esports in partnership with Playcon and supported by GamingMalta, brought together over 150 students from diverse schools and backgrounds for three days of high-level competition and collaboration from October 7-11th, 2025.

“Chatmore was able to enter due to its status as a COBIS Member school. This global event is designed not only to showcase elite student gaming talent but also to promote learning through play, teamwork, and character development.

“Among the event’s many highlights, Jayden DeSilva of Chatmore received the Most Valuable Player [MVP] for Sportsmanship Award, chosen from all students attending the tournament. This distinction recognizes an individual whose conduct best exemplifies fair play, respect, empathy, and encouragement and was selected by notable Esports player Micheal O’Dell.”

“This experience has been truly unforgettable for him,” said Lynn-Marie DeSilva, parent of Jayden DeSilva. “Competing with top players from around the world, representing his country with passion, teamwork, and dedication is an experience he will never forget.”

Coach Britanni Butterworth reflected on the team’s journey from local qualifiers to the international finals., saying: “It’s been an exercise in resilience and determination. It was inspiring to watch the team compete in the early rounds and celebrate the qualification to play in Malta.

“They communicated well and above all, took the time to get to know students from other teams. A highlight for me was video calling the school back home during one of their games and seeing the whole school cheering them on live. It brought smiles to all our faces. We couldn’t be prouder of them.”

The spokesperson said, “Each player demonstrated exceptional focus, quick decision-making, and composure under pressure. The Rocket League squad’s journey was not simply about competition but about the process of learning how to communicate effectively, solve problems collaboratively, and balance ambition with humility.

“The experience also offered a chance for students to connect with peers from around the world and gain a sense of global citizenship. They engaged with educational workshops at Playcon that highlighted career pathways in gaming, digital design, and technology, showing that esports is more than entertainment; it is an evolving industry fostering innovation and critical 21st-century skills.”

“The best part of the trip was walking into the arena for the first time. It was like nothing we’ve seen before. Meeting Micheal O’Dell was another highlight and I’m just really proud of how well we did as a team” said Christopher Pacheco, student.

The spokesperson said, “Parents, who followed the team’s progress with enthusiasm and pride, have praised the event for its emphasis on collaboration, emotional intelligence, and perseverance.”

“Tristan and the team showed great collaboration skills, teamwork and resilience in addition to fair play. It’s an incredible achievement on the world stage,” shared Heidi and Tristan White.

Natalie Hernandez felt a deep sense of pride for her son Christopher’s involvement. “Placing third in the Championship is no small feat. It shows not only his talent and intellect but also his discipline and ability to stand out on a global stage.”

The spokesperson said, “For Chatmore, the team’s achievement in Malta encapsulates its core values of collaboration, resilience, curiosity, and respect. Esports has become an innovative extension of these values, offering a platform for students to apply their learning in real-world contexts that demand communication, leadership, and emotional control. It echoes the school’s belief that education should empower students not only to think critically but also to act with empathy and integrity.

“As the students return home, they bring with them not only medals and accolades but also memories, friendships, and lessons that will shape their personal and academic journeys for years to come. Chatmore would like to thank its lead local sponsors: Paradise Cleaning & Maintenance and Educater.bm.”
