The University [Uni] Power Skills holiday empowerment event on December 17 will offer students “skills and knowledge for attendees to best prepare for and thrive in University.”

A spokesperson said, “The University [Uni] Power Skills holiday empowerment event will take place Wednesday, December 17 at Ruth Seaton James Hall from 5:15pm to 7:15pm.

“This dynamic event is designed to impart skills and knowledge for attendees to best prepare for and thrive in University. The four accomplished featured presenters will be current senior year Uni students and recent graduates, all geared to share their Uni focused skills development knowledge with senior high schoolers, current Uni students and attendees that want a high-energy and empowering youth development experience.

“Marli Spriggs, a 3rd year Philosophy, Politics and Economics undergraduate at the University of Warwick, UK, will share 7 Strategies to Balance Academics, Extracurricular Activities and Fun. A few of her presentation benefits will include avoiding deadline stress, winning with your degree cohort, and making the most of office hours. Marli, a recent Nicholls Scholarship recipient, will also share success tips to standout with scholarship applications.

“Adriana Burchall is an Investment Analyst with Hudson Structured Capital, having started in August 2025, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Statistics and Data Science at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow Scotland. Adriana, a past AXA XL scholar, will present on Finding Purpose, People & Possibility in University. Her presentation benefits will include starting Uni with intention, building your support system, leaving Uni with leverage and scholarship strategy.

“Ava Gibson, a Law undergraduate at University College London, UK, will present on Busting Myths About Public Speaking. Her presentation will focus in part on speaking with confidence and clarity, interacting with your audience, and communicating without speaking. Ava, a recent Conyers Scholarship recipient, will also share her best practice regarding scholarship applications.

“And lastly, Kayode George, Film Maker, recently graduated from the Toronto Metropolitan University, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies. Kayode recently received the Achievement in Screenwriting for Outcasted at the Toronto Met Film Festival in 2024. She will be presenting 5 Tactics for Mind, Body & Soul Wellness. A few of her presentation learning outcomes will include capturing your memories in technicolour, discovering power in being vulnerable and rejection is inevitable, growth is not.

“In addition to the above impactful presentations, surprise entertainers, giveaway prizes, a dance competition, and music by DJ Outlaw will be part of the empowerment event.
