Open Mat Bermuda Win Three Medals in Vegas
Open Mat Bermuda’s team claimed three medals at the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation No-Gi World Championship in Las Vegas.
Lonnie Bascome won gold in the Masters 3 Brown Belt Lightweight division; Jason McAlpine secured silver in the Masters 4 Brown Belt Middleweight division; and Ramazan Ramazanov claimed bronze in the Masters 3 Blue Belt Medium-Heavyweight division.
Also representing the team were coach Chris Regan [Black Belt Masters 4 Super Heavyweight], Reina Maypa [Purple Belt Adult Middleweight], Greg Maybury [Blue Belt Masters 1 Middleweight], and Ryan Hopkins [Blue Belt Adult Heavyweight].
“The group showcased depth, resilience, and technical proficiency, competing across Adult and Masters division belt levels,” Bascome told Bernews.
“While not all competitors returned with medals, the collective effort reflected Open Mat Bermuda’s growing presence and competitive standard within the global Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene.
“Under Chris’s leadership, the team continues to build momentum, emphasising disciplined training, technical excellence, and consistent performance.
“With this latest result, Open Mat Bermuda BJJ reinforces its reputation as a serious and rising force in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition scene.”
