57th Annual Gas-o-Rama On February 7th
The Hamilton Lions Club and Terceira’s Family of Service Stations host the 57th Annual Gas-o-Rama on February 7 to raise funds for Compassionate Care Partners.
A spokesperson said, “Prepare for a day of fun and community spirit at the 57th Annual Gas-o-Rama, taking place on Saturday, February 7th, at Terceira’s North Shore Service Station in Smiths. This event is a collaboration between The Hamilton Lions Club and Terceira’s Family of Service Stations to raise funds to support local charities.
“The Gas-o-Rama has been in place for over half a century and proceeds from the profits of fuel pumped that day and the raffle organized by The Hamilton Lions Club will be donated to the selected charity for 2026, Compassionate Care Partners, formerly known as Friends of Hospice. Funds raised will be used to support their Help Us Grow capital campaign to build a multi-purpose Care Centre.
“At the Hamilton Lions Club, our promise is simple: ’We Serve.’”
Velda Franco, President of the Hamilton Lions Club stated “This isn’t just a motto it is our unconditional commitment to Bermuda. We serve wherever there is a need, fueled by the community’s spirit at our annual Gas-O-Rama, ensuring that every helping hand today builds a more compassionate tomorrow.”
A spokesperson added, “The event began in 1969 following a legendary bet between the late Malcolm Terceira and club president Edward “Teddy” Chapman. Chapman won the bet and requested the use of the gas station for a day to benefit charity.
“Since its inception, the event has raised over $1 million for local charities.
“The goal is to create a lively environment that celebrates and demonstrates the positive difference that can occur when organizations work together towards a common goal while raising funds for a critical initiative.
“The festivities will kick off at 8am and run until 6pm when the winners of the raffle are drawn. There will also be a car wash overseen by The Bermuda Sloop Foundation, live entertainment, games, special food offerings and giveaways throughout the day.
“The organizers would like to remind the public that the more gas pumped assists in raising more funds for the selected charity, so try and arrive with an “empty” tank.”
Michael Terceira, one half of the family’s third generation of management along with his brother Teddy, had this to say, “We are honoured to once again partner with Lions Club to deliver the Gas o Rama, an important family and company tradition. They tell me that my grandfather, Malcolm, tried to bet his horse on a poker hand in the late ‘60s but Mr. Teddy Chapman turned it down and asked for the gas station for a day instead. 57 years later we still give that day to the Lions Club and it continues to deliver aid to deserving charities year after year.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Hamilton Lions Club President Velda Franco and Compassionate Care Partners Executive Director Jennifer Mahoney to focus on revitalizing the event to make it as successful as possible. We look forward to seeing everyone on the 7th.”
A spokesperson added, “For additional event information please see social media channels for the organizations.”
