BEN Awards Honour Outstanding Educators
The Bermuda Education Network [BEN] recently held its 2025 Outstanding Teaching Awards to honour exceptional public school educators.
A spokesperson said, “The annual event brought together educators, families, community leaders, and partners to celebrate excellence in teaching and the vital role educators play in shaping the future.
“This year’s was presented to Ms. Zola French-Ray, recognized for her inclusive, creative, and multisensory teaching practices. Ms. French-Ray’s classroom at West Pembroke Primary School for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder fosters a learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
“Her impact extends beyond the classroom through strong family partnerships, school-wide inclusion efforts, and advocacy for programs that support student well-being and growth.

“In addition to the main award, BEN presented three Special Recognition Awards:
- The Outstanding School and Community Spirit Award was awarded to Mr. Terry Henry, a music teacher at Northlands and Paget Primary, for fostering a strong sense of belonging within his school community through collaboration, inclusivity, and meaningful connections beyond the classroom.
- The Outstanding Teaching Team Award was presented to Primary 3 Teacher at Somerset Primary, Ms. Kelly Massa, and her paraeducator, Ms. Simone Basden, recognizing their collaborative partnership, shared creativity, and commitment to student growth that results in engaging and impactful learning experiences.
- The Student and Family Engagement Award was awarded to Francis Patton’s Primary 5 Teacher, Ms. Shayla Morton, whose exceptional parent nominations highlighted her ability to build strong relationships with students and families while contributing to school initiatives and community programs.
