Healthcare Team At Triangle Challenge
[Column written by Dr Kimberley Watkins]
This year’s Chubb BDA Triangle Challenge was a shining example of collaboration within Bermuda’s healthcare community, as physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, athletic therapists, and podiatrists all came together under one tent to support the island’s premier running event. The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association extends its heartfelt thanks to every healthcare professional involved for their unwavering dedication and hard work throughout the weekend.
A special thank you goes to the dedicated individuals who made this collaboration possible: physiotherapists Maureen Ryan, Raina Steer, Shara Cruden, Dr. Stephen Lightbourne, Alex Willburz, Ciara Flanagan, and Santashae Ascento; chiropractors Dr. William Luckwell, Dr. Aiden Shepherd, and Dr. Nate Christopher; massage therapists Shelley Fortnum, Susie Keyes, and Claire De St Croix. Dr Annabel Carter [Osteopath and consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine], Siàn Dawson [Podiatrist], athletic therapist Kyasia Simmons, and Sascha Burchall, a third-year kinesiology student attending a clinical placement at Myotherapy Centre. Their commitment, skill, and enthusiasm were instrumental in supporting the runners and the event as a whole.
The collective effort was evident from the start with seventeen healthcare professionals helping. Three professionals assisted runners at the Hamilton Princess pick-up. Seven more helped at the 10K/5K event at the National Stadium. Another seven were stationed at Barr’s Park to provide care for marathon and half-marathon finishers. Their expertise ensured that athletes received top-notch support and care before, during, and after their events.
A highlight was Paula Radcliffe, legendary world-renowned runner and marathon record holder, whose presence elevated the event as she kicked off the Front Street Mile, ran the 10K, and started the marathon in Dockyard, inspiring athletes and volunteers alike. Additionally, race director Mark Harris’ organizational skills ensured seamless transportation for runners, offering free ferry and bus service throughout the weekend.
The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association gives special recognition to Maureen Ryan for coordinating medical efforts to keep the event running smoothly. Her generous donation of time and expertise was invaluable. The 2026 Triangle Challenge shows the strength of teamwork in Bermuda’s healthcare and running communities. The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association is proud to have contributed to this success and looks forward to future events marked by unity and excellence of healthcare providers across the island.
