Bermuda College President Dr. David Sam is leading an island-wide school tour to inspire early college and career conversations, emphasizing diverse pathways and the value of preparation from a young age.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda College is taking its college-and-career message directly into schools through an island-wide tour. The visits are being led by Bermuda College President Dr. David Sam, who is encouraging families to start the “college talk” early through school engagements and PTA discussions focused on planning, confidence, and long-term opportunity.”

Dr. Sam said. ““Bermuda College is a great place to start because we help students find a pathway that fits, From strong academics to skilled trades and professional credentials, we support ambitions with real options.

“Students don’t have one ‘right’ route. Our role as Bermuda’s community college is to keep doors open, whether that means university transfer, workforce-ready skills, or stepping up through stackable qualifications.”

The spokesperson said, “To date, the tour has reached nine primary schools, all middle schools, and both senior schools, with two primary school visits upcoming, and additional meetings expected through the next school year calendar.

“At each stop, the message is simple: preparation begins long before senior school. Families are encouraged to build steady learning habits, explore interests, and ask questions early, so students keep multiple options open, said Dr. Sam, who has also been stressing the importance of reading.

Dr. Sam added, “College planning doesn’t begin with exam results, it begins with curiosity, support, and informed choices, When students understand what’s possible, they approach school differently and set stronger goals.”

He added: “Reading, and not just reading things on social media, is so important to a child’s development and I really want to get that message across, especially to the younger students.”

The spokesperson said, “Bermuda College’s programmes span academic associate degrees as well as career-focused training, designed for school-leavers, working adults, and career-changers. Students can pursue structured study, targeted certifications, or stackable credentials.

“A major focus of the tour is explaining the College’s role as Bermuda’s community college: a single institution offering many routes, including preparation for university transfer, workforce entry, and technical training aligned with local needs.

“For students seeking overseas study, Bermuda College promotes clear transfer pathways supported by 41 articulation agreements with accredited institutions in Canada, the UK, the US, and the West Indies/Caribbean.”

Dr. Sam said, “These agreements help students start close to home and move forward with confidence, It’s about expanding choice, saving time and cost where possible, while keeping doors open to excellent universities.”

The spokesperson said, “The College is also highlighting the breadth of professional and vocational learning through its Athora Professional and Career Education [APACE] division, which offers more than 50 courses to build job-ready skills and credentials.

“Course areas include nursing assistant and health pathways such as EMT training, technology-focused offerings like cybersecurity, and industry-recognised certifications including project management, alongside practical training in medical billing and coding.

“APACE also supports Bermuda’s compliance and governance needs, with learning options in compliance, corporate governance, and emerging skills such as AI-focused courses, helping learners adapt to fast-changing workplace expectations.

“Affordability is another key theme of the tour. Bermuda College is promoting financial aid options available for both credit programmes and professional courses, with guidance available to help applicants understand eligibility and timelines.

“The tour is also highlighting that Bermuda College scholarships are available, via www.bermudascholarships.com.

“Last year, more than $577,000 in financial support was available to students, and over the past five years, support has exceeded $3.1 million, reinforcing the College’s commitment to access and opportunity.”

Dr. Sam said, “Financial aid can be the difference between waiting and starting, We want students to know help exists, and we’ll walk them through the process, so cost doesn’t block potential.”

The spokesperson said, “Schools, parents, and community partners interested in hosting a visit or learning more about programmes, transfer pathways, or financial aid can contact Bermuda College at readytostart@college.bm or call 239-4099.”
