Saltus Sweeps Primary Cross Country Titles
Saltus Grammar School dominated the Primary School Cross Country Championships held at the National Sports Centre.
A spokesperson said, “Saltus claimed the Overall Girls and Overall Boys titles on their way to the Overall championship trophy. Saltus were crowned Overall champions with an impressive score of 160 points. Warwick Academy were a distant second with 388 while Somersfield Academy finished third with 707. Saltus Boys had a commanding day scoring a score of 54 points in the Overall Boys division. Warwick Academy again finished in second with 183 with Somersfield Academy scoring 323. Saltus Girls were not to be outdone and scored 101 points on their way to victory. Bermuda High School finished second with 125 with Warwick Academy finishing third in 205.
“Vivienne Fox secured the first win of the day winning the Under 9 Girls race. The BHS student crossed the finish line in a time of 9:23. Saltus claimed the next two spots with Halo Lowe finishing in second in 9:36 and Indigo Kemp in 9:46. Saltus runner Esha Grainger gave her school three runners in the top ten after finishing in 8th. Saltus finished in first in the division with 56 points. Fox led BHS to a second place finish with 66 points while Warwick Academy finished third with 172 points. Caiz Dill-Seymour from Somerset Primary finished in fourth ahead of Koi Simmons from MSA who rounded out the top five.

“Saltus had five runners finish in the top seven spots on their way to a convincing win in the Under 9 Boys division with 21 points. Elliot Davidge led the charge winning the race in 8:38. Teammate Jamie Kane claimed silver in 8:46. Carter Anderson finished fifth followed by Brooklyn Emery in sixth and Rory McLeod in seventh. Kanzo Thompson captured the bronze medal. The Dalton E. Tucker student finished in 9:04. Francis Patton runner Koa Bean finished in fourth place and helped to propel his Team to a third place finish with 120 points. Warwick Academy finished in second with 91 points and had Christopher Wheatley finish in the top ten. Harrington Sound had a good race with Shannon Grimes-Jennings finishing eight and Addis Smith finishing in ninth.

“Diamond Morris and Naomi Nusum from Saltus Grammar School both finished on the podium but Warwick Academy claimed the Over 9 Girls title with five runners in the top ten. Morris stopped the clock at 10:43 with Nusum finishing third in 11:03. Freya Dunkle led the Warwick contingent with a second place finish in 10:44. Kamari Brooks-Gibbons [4], Esme Jansma [8], Liliana Corbett [9] and Hazel Richards [10] all joined Dunkle with top ten finishes giving Warwick Academy 33 points for the win. Saltus finished second with 45 points while Parker Howard [5] and Nola Thatcher [7] lifted BHS to a third place finish with 59 points. Giselle Reid-Rubaine from Harrington Sound Primary finished in 6th place.

“Saltus again won the Over 9 Boys division with three runners finishing in the top ten. Nolan Horrobin had an impressive run winning ahead of second place finisher Jacob Butterfield from Port Royal Primary. Heath Kempe from Saltus completed the podium with a third place finish. Butterfield’s Port Royal Teammate Roman Bather just missed out on a podium finish after finishing fourth. A few schools saw their first top ten finishers with Emilio Roberts-Pitcher from St.George’s Preparatory [5] Tru Dillas from Northlands [6] and Karter Riley [8] from West Pembroke all finishing in the top ten. Warwick Academy’s Levi Mello finished in 7th while Trevor Mills from Somersfield Academy secured 9th place. Josh Cann joined Horrobin and Kempe in the top ten giving Saltus 38 points to win the division. Warwick finished second with 92 and Somersfield Academy 3rd with 106.”
