Adrian Roach On Upcoming Fight In US
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Boxer Adrian Roach expects a stern test when he faces Devin Carter in what he describes as a “fifty-fifty” contest in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday [March 21].
The 23-year-old has won both of his professional bouts since turning over and will meet Carter [1-0] in a four-round welterweight fight.
“I’ve been fine-tuning the game plan and rehearsing things,” Roach told Bernews.
“I’m very one-track minded right now. All I’m thinking about is the fight, although I’m careful about mental burnout.”
Roach will have fellow Bermudian professional Saundre “Dash” Simmons in his corner, along with Jessy Becerra and Yannick Dill.
He anticipates American southpaw Carter, 23, to press the action.
Carter won his debut against Lee Ricks-Wynne [0-1] in Greensboro in March last year.
“It’s a good test — he’ll bring the fight to me,” Roach said. “It’s going to be a fifty-fifty fight.
“I’m not taking the traditional route. I’m daring to be great early and going into a tough fight soon into my pro career.”
The bout will mark Roach’s first professional outing in the United States.
“The US is the hotspot for boxing,” he added. “Hopefully I can progress to venues like New York and Las Vegas. It will be good to get my feet wet.”
Roach, who trains at Controversy Gym in Hamilton, has been sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority for his fight against Carter.
