The Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] Carifta Games qualifying series continued this weekend at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium, where three Bermudian middle-distance runners confirmed or reaffirmed their standards for the upcoming regional championships.

Gianluca Bortoli, who had already achieved the qualifying standard for the Under 20 division, finished the 1500-meter run in 4:17.39. His performance remained under the BNAA’s established entry threshold for the distance.

In the Under 17 category, Sanchez Smith finished with a time of 4:20.01. Having previously qualified for the Grenada games, Smith’s time served as a successful defense of his current season standing.

Elena Bortoli became the latest Bermudian athlete to meet the Carifta qualifying criteria. Competing against a required standard of 5:06.00, she completed the race in 5:00.88 to secure her spot on the national squad.
