Bermuda Triathlon Association Presents Awards
The Bermuda Triathlon Association held its Annual Awards presentation at Cambridge Beaches.
Naomi MacGuinness was named Best Female Junior Triathlete. Her results included two gold medals at the Carifta Games in Tobago, a 13th-place finish in Clermont, Florida, and a win in the Clarien Ironkids 11-15 category.
Rory Shepherd was named Best Male Junior Triathlete. He placed fourth at the East Coast Triathlon Festival in Virginia and sixth at the US Nationals in Ohio.
Jackson Langley was named Best Local Based Male Triathlete. He served as the Carifta Team Captain, won a silver medal in the Mixed Team Relay, and placed second in the Liberty Mutual Sprint National Championships.
Maddie Durkin was named Best Local Based Female Triathlete. She was the first female overall at the Western Mass 70.3 Half Ironman, qualifying for the World Championships in Spain.
Nick Pilgrim and Erica Hawley were recognized as the best overseas-based athletes.
Luke Hyland and Lesley Jane Smith were named the most improved athletes.
Mike Evans and Esme Davidge were named the best newcomers.
Geoff Smith received the Jim Butterfield Long Service Award, and Alec Shepherd was named the John Buchanan Club Person of the Year.
Sanchez Smith and Sofia Leclerc were named champions of the Super Sprint Summer Series.
Marie-Lynn Dore and Ashley Couper received Special Achievement Awards following their age group victories at the Lake Placid Ironman, which qualified them for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
