A spokesperson said, “Planet Math and Spirit of Math are proud to celebrate the remarkable success of Bermudian students in the recent Spirit of Math International Competition. Following the examination held on February 7th, a formal recognition ceremony was hosted on April 25th to honor participants with Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards for their exceptional discipline and problem-solving abilities.

“Of the over 30 students who challenged themselves with this rigorous assessment, an incredible 23 qualified for the Global Round in Toronto, Canada. This milestone marks the largest contingent Bermuda has ever sent to this international stage.

“The event was a resounding success, enjoyed by a packed house of parents, guardians, and supporters. We were honored by the attendance of the Minister of Education, The Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, and the Commissioner of Education, Mrs. Kalmar Richards. Their presence underscored the national importance of mathematical literacy and the impressive strides being made by Bermuda’s youth. The Minister asserted that, “it was especially meaningful to see students taking part in an internationally recognized math challenge that goes beyond memorization, one that builds problem-solving, logical reasoning, and creative thinking.” Planet Math extends its sincere gratitude to Commissioner Richards, as well as the many teachers across the island whose commitment was instrumental in the initiative’s success.”

The competition was further bolstered by the attendance & generosity of donor Sean McNulty, Founder & CEO of XIB Investment Management Limited. His sponsorship ensures that financial barriers do not stand in the way of academic opportunity, allowing five talented students to participate in the upcoming Global Round.

“Bermuda has been a wonderful home for my family since 2020, and I am proud to be an active member of this community,” said Mr. McNulty. “While math is essential in the professional world, problem-solving is a critical life competency that everyone needs. Congratulations to all the participants, and I wish the students representing Bermuda on the global stage this summer in Toronto the very best of luck!”

“Seeing these young minds tackle complex problems with such confidence is exactly why we do what we do,” said Kevin Warner, Co-Founder of Planet Math. “This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about building the thinkers and leaders of tomorrow.”

Sergio Pitcher, Co-Founder of Planet Math, added: “The dedication these students have shown is inspiring. Having so many kids qualify for the Global Round is a testament to their hard work and the effectiveness of our collaborative curriculum. We are creating a culture where math is not just a subject, but an adventure.”

Nathan Langen, Vice President of Spirit of Math, remarked: “Bermuda is a prime example of a community of leaders who understand and value math education. Congratulations to all students who took the risk of venturing into a math contest for the first time and thank you to everyone at Planet Math who made it an amazing experience.”

Following this success, Planet Math looks forward to developing this competition into a permanent annual event.
