Newton & Betschart Tied At Cedarberry Lead
Bermudian golfers Arman Newton and Oliver Betschart share the lead in the 16-18 Blue Championship Division following the opening round of the third annual Talcott Cedarberry Bowl at the Mid Ocean Club.
Both players finished the first day at even-par 71. Newton recorded five birdies and five bogeys during his round. Betschart, the defending champion seeking a third consecutive title, finished with 11 pars and four birdies, overcoming a double bogey to remain tied at the top. The pair holds an eight-stroke lead over Johnny Bart, who sits in third place at 8-over-par 79.
Competition is also level in the 14-15 Boys and Girls White Championship Division. Lachlan Soutter and Vihaan Seth are tied for the lead after carding rounds of 9-over-par 80. Soutter’s round included two birdies and one triple bogey, while Seth recorded two birdies, eight pars, and a triple bogey. Antonio Fortuna and Charlie Hopkin are tied for third, one stroke behind the leaders at 10-over-par 81.
In the Under 12 Red Championship Division, Bradford Laing leads the field after shooting a 9-over-par 80. Laing’s opening round featured 10 pars. He currently holds an eight-stroke advantage over Jack Jones, who sits in second place with an 88. Jones recorded two birdies to offset five double bogeys. Joshua Cann is in third place after carding a 91.
