Video: Tyler Christopher On Upcoming Fight
Tyler Christopher said he is ready for his “big break” when he fights on the undercard of a televised bill in Leeds, England.
The southpaw [12-0] will face Portugal’s Mauro Silva [9-0] in an eight-round middleweight bout at the First Direct Bank Arena on August 8.
Silva, who will also put his unbeaten record on the line, last fought Belarusian Dzmitry Atrokhau [16-36) in Lancashire in May last year, winning on points.
The main event, promoted by Boxxer, will feature super-middleweights Callum Simpson and Troy Williamson.
“It’s very exciting for me,” Christopher told Bernews. “This is what I came to England for – to fight on these big TV shows.
“Now it’s coming to fruition. It’s a great opportunity to get my name out there on the British [boxing] scene.
“My opponent is undefeated, a very good boxer, but he hasn’t seen anyone as capable as me.
“I feel as though I was born to be televised. This is what I was meant to be doing my whole life.
“I’m ready for the press conferences, the weigh-ins, the face-offs. This has always been my goal.”
Christopher, who trains at the D&A Boxing School of Excellence in Birmingham, said he hopes the bout will provide the breakthrough he has been working towards.
He previously defeated Josh Cook in a four-round super-middleweight bout in Cannock, Staffordshire, in March by unanimous decision.
“Hopefully, this is my big break,” he added. “I hope all my Bermudians back home support me – I’m trying to put us on the map.”
