Nikki Bascome has hailed the success of an open sparring session at the Fresh & Hungry Boxing Club at the TN Tatem Tennis Court in Warwick on Sunday [September 27].
The event featured nine exhibition bouts and welcomed participants of all experience levels and ages from gyms including Forty Rego’s Boxing Gym, Controversy Gym, Aries Sports Centre and the Bermuda Sanshou Association.
“The weather held up – we pushed the event from Saturday to Sunday, and it turned out great,” Bascome, a professional boxer, told Bernews.
“The whole purpose is to give these guys ring experience and get them used to fighting in front of a crowd.
“We match them up evenly. It’s a good opportunity for them, which I didn’t have coming up.
“My coach [Allan ‘Forty’ Rego] had to take me overseas to get fights.
“It was a great event. I’m thankful for everyone who supported it.
“We plan to hold more events like this. Keep your ears open for the next one.”
