The Adult Education School celebrated the achievements of 16 graduates who received their GED certificates during their commencement ceremony today.
A spokesperson said, “The Adult Education School today celebrates the success of 16 new graduates in the Class of 2026. The young men and women received their GED certificates at a ceremony at Bermuda College’s Athene Lecture Hall, attended by more than 100 family members, friends and supporters.
“Guest speaker Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe congratulated graduates and urged them to make a difference in their community.”
“With all that you have learnt at the Adult Education School, it is your duty to assist those who are voiceless and who are defenceless,” Mr Justice Wolffe said. “Take your rightful place in the social, economic, financial and political landscape and rebuke those who dare to stop you.”
A spokesperson added, “The ceremony included addresses from Bermuda College President Dr David Sam, AES Board Chairman Dr Ernest Peets, Managing Director Arlene Brock, AES Programme Director Thaao Dill, and Class of 2026 graduates Savannah Lewis and Jaden Place.
“Trailblazing Bermudian footballer Clyde Best congratulated graduates in a video presentation.”
Mr Best told graduates: “It’s an unbelievable achievement and I wish you all the best. Now that you have got the first one, go on to the next one.”
A spokesperson added, “Dr Sam congratulated graduates for overcoming challenges to pass their exams and told them they had earned a place at Bermuda College.”
Ms Brock said: “We are delighted that these 16 young men and women were able to flourish at the Adult Education School. Each of them has an exciting future and it has been an honour to help them on their path to success.
“Our school has a wonderful history of helping people succeed when the traditional classroom has not worked for them. This service has never been more critical for the future success of Bermuda, and we look forward to supporting our community for many years to come.”
Mr Dill said: “We are intensely proud of our community of graduates for the work they have put in, the challenges they have overcome, and this marvellous accomplishment they have earned.”
A spokesperson added, “Adult Education School Class of 2026: Tajae Browne-Dill, Teresa-Rose Burchall, Oral Daley, Matthew Davidson, Kemi Davis, Noah Edwards, Kalahni Fishenden, Nori Jones, Catalina Lewis, Savannah Lewis, Chris Pacheco, Jaden Place, Claire Rewan, Ayshalay Simons, Josiah Smith and Satinka Smith.
“The Adult Education School was founded in 1958 by Merle Brock Swan Williams. Since then, the school’s inclusive, judgement-free atmosphere has given more than 4,000 Bermudians the platform to build a brighter future for themselves and their families.”
