BBBS: ‘How Much Would You Pay To See Me?’
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda will hold its “How much would you pay to see me…?” fundraiser on Sunday [July 12], with people set to take on challenges to raise funds at Victoria Park.
A spokesperson said, “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda is bringing the laughs, the surprises, and the outrageous dares back to the stage with the seventh edition of its popular fundraiser ‘How Much Would You Pay to See Me…?’
“The event will take place on Sunday, July 12th during Summer Sunday at Victoria Park, hosted by the City of Hamilton. Local celebrities, corporate representatives, and community members will step completely out of their comfort zones to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda, with each contestant aiming to raise $1,500 in support of the charity’s mentoring programmes.
“This is not your average fundraiser. Over the years, the community has watched a Member of Parliament kiss a pig from Wadson’s Farm, a school principal box the BELCO Bird, a star runner eat a live “organic” cockroach, a church bishop dance the Whip & Nae Nae while being baptized with water balloons, and the Presidents of Somerset and St. George’s Cricket Clubs swap team colours. This year’s contestants are ready to take the stage, and anything can happen.
“The dare schedule is as follows:
2:30 p.m.
- 1. Nicola Crofton – Marshmallow mouth speech
- 2. Shira Jatto – Getting slimed
- 3. Tallent Clark – Drinking a concoction
- 4. Vernal Caines – Chubb – Getting a pie in the face and a few surprises
- 5. Keiran Bradshaw & Sophie Simons – Fidelis – Racing against each other in dinosaur costumes
3:15 p.m.
- 1. Nikita Robinson – Jumping rope as the Town Crier
- 2. Yung Ty – Becoming the Snake Wrangler
- 3. Tariq Lynch-Wade – BermudAir Pilot – Having his face painted by children in the audience
- 4. Terri K – Dance battle with children from the audience
- 5. Aalai – Getting mummified with toilet paper by the children and then acting like she is in Thriller
- 6. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Sigma Xi Omega Chapter – Non-talent synchronized swim
Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Managing Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda, said the event is all about “fun with a purpose.”
Ms. O’Connor-Paynter said, “Every year, our contestants show up ready to laugh at themselves, entertain the crowd, and support a cause that truly matters. This fundraiser brings the community together in such a fun and memorable way, while helping us continue to provide mentoring programmes for Bermuda’s young people. We are so grateful to everyone who has agreed to take on a dare this year, and we encourage the public to donate, cheer them on, and come out to enjoy the show.
“We would also like to thank the City of Hamilton for their continued support and for allowing us to be part of Summer Sunday at Victoria Park. It is going to be a fun afternoon for a great cause.”
The spokesperson said, “Members of the public can support the fundraiser by making a donation towards one of the contestants through GPass.bm by clicking on ‘How Much Would You Pay to See Me…?’ and selecting a contestant. Each participant also has a pledge sheet, and BBBS will be accepting donations during the event on Sunday.
