Blayz Borgesson Signs For Burnley

Bermudian footballer Blayz Borgesson has signed for Sky Bet Championship club Burnley after leaving National League North side Radcliffe.

The first-year professional earned the move after impressing during Radcliffe’s record-breaking run to the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup, which led to a successful trial with Burnley.

Borgesson joined Radcliffe’s academy as a scholar last year after spells with Accrington Stanley and Salford City academies.

Radcliffe chairman Billy Quarmby said Borgesson’s transfer was another proud moment for the club.

“Blayz moving on to Burnley after such a fantastic season with our Academy is another incredibly proud moment for everyone connected with the club,” Quarmby said.

“This season has been a special one for Radcliffe. To see our academy players play their part in a journey that included reaching the FA Youth Cup first round proper, while also seeing young players earn first-team contracts, is a testament to the hard work, commitment and belief shown throughout the club.

“We are incredibly proud of Blayz and everyone who has played a part in his development. While we are sad to see him leave, we are also delighted to see him take this next step and continue his footballing journey at a club like Burnley.”

Radcliffe academy head Kyle Hall praised Borgesson’s attitude throughout the season.

“Working with Blayz this year has been a pleasure,” Hall said. “He has shown exceptional commitment, professionalism and determination every day. This opportunity is fully deserved and I’m excited to see what the future holds for him.”
