‘Collision Involving Electric Cycle & Pedestrian’
Police are appealing for witnesses following a “collision involving an electric cycle and a pedestrian” in Hamilton that left a 71-year-old woman injured.
A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Police Officers were dispatched to a road traffic collision involving an electric cycle and a pedestrian, near the junction of Wesley Street and Church Street, in the City of Hamilton.
“It was reported that the electric cycle was seen to come out of Wesley Street, while the rider, a 15-year-old male, looked behind him as he approached a nearby crosswalk.
“A 71-year-old female pedestrian was at the time making her way along the crosswalk.
“Upon seeing her, the electric cycle rider was unable to make a timely stop and collided with the pedestrian.
“The collision resulted in her having sustained an eye injury as well as a leg injury.
“The bike rider sustained minor bruising.
“The elderly female victim was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, for treatment of her injuries.”
Arthur Glasford, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police reminded; “Persons operating any vehicle should at all times be aware that they are responsible not only for the safe operation of that vehicle, but also to exercise caution as they make their way along the island’s roads.”
Superintendent Glasford added: “In densely populated areas such as the City of Hamilton, with its numerous pedestrian crosswalks and traffic lights, drivers and bike riders should be especially attentive when approaching these traffic controls and be aware of persons attempting to cross the street at these locations.”
The spokesperson said, “An investigation into this collision has now begun and anyone with information is asked to contact PC 2221 Dennis Joell by calling 717-2221 or via email djoell@bps.bm.”

This crash will affect the victim for the rest of her life. As we age we don’t self-repair like we do in our younger years.
Even minor injuries live on for years after the event.
Even more reason for liability insurance needed for all E vehicles immediately.
This crash into a pedestrian is only the first, that we know of, involving an E vehicle. There will be many more. E bikes and scooters are more common by the day. The people disqualified from riding/driving ICE vehicles are riding E bikes, and they are riding them in the same careless manner.
Disqualified should apply to any type of motorised vehicle. The only thing disqualified people should be riding is the bus or a 100% human powered vehicle.
