Kaden Hopkins On Return From Injury
Cyclist Kaden Hopkins has confirmed he will undergo surgery after re-breaking his collarbone in a crash during the Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe.
Hopkins said the injury was to the same collarbone he fractured in February, adding that he will return to Spain for surgery next week.
“After such a long season of setbacks, the shape was finally there, the results were starting to come with it, but sometimes things are just out of your control,” Hopkins said.
“After a dumb crash in the last descent of the TT yesterday, a re-break of the same collarbone I did in February is just the next bump in the road of this season.”
Despite the crash, Hopkins completed the individual time-trial on Friday [August 7] and finished second, two seconds behind Frenchman Alex Doltaire.
The 26-year-old said he remains determined to make a swift return to competition.
“Heading back to Spain for surgery next week, then I’ll be back … season’s not over yet,” he said.
Hopkins also thanked Bermuda’s team and his Atom6-Cycleur de Luxe-Auto Stroo team-mates and staff for their support during his time in Guadeloupe.
“Thank you to everyone for all the messages, I’m sorry if I don’t get back to you directly, but your support means a lot,” he said.
“Thank you to Team Bermuda for the memories in CAC Games last week, as well as the staff and especially all my boys from Atom6-Cycleur de Luxe Auto Stroo for a great Tour here in Guadeloupe.”
