Boxer Adrian Roach On Upcoming Fight
Adrian Roach returns to the ring against American Brandon Mendez in Greensboro, North Carolina, today [August 14], looking to extend his unbeaten professional record.
The 24-year-old [2-0] will face Mendez, who is making his professional debut, in a four-round welterweight bout at the Frank & Florence Williams Event Centre.
Roach has had two fights cancelled this year, against Devon Carter in North Carolina in March and Jerrell Mayweather in Texas three months later.
“There have been lots of ups and downs so far in my pro career – cancelled fights, last-minute withdrawals, rained-out events,” Roach told Bernews.
“I had to deal with injuries in my previous two camps, but this camp I haven’t had to deal with anything like that.
“I’m feeling good about this fight.”
The fight will be available on pay-per-view on www.bigsports.tv at 7.30pm [Bermuda time].
Roach said he has little information about Mendez ahead of the bout.
“We haven’t actually seen any footage of him,” he said.
“As far as style, we’ve only heard whispers of what he has to offer.
“We’re preparing for a hard fight.”
Former professional footballer and Bermuda player Michael Parsons will be in Roach’s corner.
“I’m still training with Leo [Richardson], but Mikey steps in when I fight overseas – he’s been a part of my camps for a long time,” Roach added.
“He’s someone I trust to be in my corner.”
Mendez told The Wilson Times that he is confident of victory.
“Well, my plan is to go in there and win,” Mendez said.
“I feel it inside of me that I’m going to destroy this guy and right now I feel no one can stop me. My mind is on right and I feel like no one can touch me right now.
“I feel so much confidence in myself and in my fighting ability that I don’t think that this fight will last too long, because I’ll put him out probably in the first or second round.”
