Bermudian boxer Adrian Roach is targeting two more fights before the end of the year after extending his unbeaten professional record to 3-0.

He stopped American Brandon Mendez in 38 seconds in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Friday [August 14], in a four-round welterweight bout at the Frank & Florence Williams Event Centre.

“I want two more fights before the year is out,” Roach told Bernews. “I stay in shape, so I don’t have to get ready.”

Roach has had two fights cancelled this year, against Devon Carter in North Carolina in March and Jerrell Mayweather in Texas three months later.

“It’s disheartening and hard to gear yourself up for another hard training camp when you know in the back of your head your opponent could possibly pull out at the last minute,” he said.

Mendez, who was making his professional debut, came out aggressively before Roach found an opportunity to end the contest.

“He came out really aggressively – we expected that,” Roach said.

“My plan was to extinguish the fire, start to control the fight and press for the knockout.

“The knockout came earlier than expected. I caught him with a well-placed shot.

“I could feel him starting to fade and jumped on my opportunity.”

Roach said he welcomes the chance to fight in Bermuda again but is willing to continue competing overseas.

“I’d love to fight in Bermuda, but I’m more than happy to keep fighting overseas and producing highlight reels for the people back home,” he added.

“A lot of my amateur career was overseas, so fighting in someone else’s backyard is nothing new for me.

“It’s mano a mano – I like that about the sport.”
