Mike Tyler Christopher believes he can make a statement when he steps into the ring at the First Direct Arena in Leeds tomorrow [August 8].

Christopher [12-0] will put his unbeaten record on the line against Portugal’s Mauro Silva [9-0] in an eight-round middleweight contest on the undercard of a Boxxer/DAZN promotion.

The main event features Callum Simpson against Troy Williamson in a super-middleweight bout.

Christopher, who exchanged words with Silva at today’s weigh-in, was in confident mood after appearing at yesterday’s press conference.

“I’ll be putting on a great performance, so British boxing will know who Mike Tyler Christopher is,” he said.

“Silva makes a lot of mistakes and on Saturday we will make him pay.

“He’s a good boxer, don’t get me wrong.”

Manchester-based Silva has not fought since May last year, when he outpointed Belarusian Dzmitry Atrokhau in Lancashire.

Christopher, who trains at the D&A Boxing School of Excellence in Birmingham, told Bernews in a recent interview that he hopes the fight will provide the breakthrough he has been working towards.

The 30-year-old last fought in March, beating Josh Cook by unanimous decision in a four-round super-middleweight bout in Cannock, Staffordshire.
