Video: Tyler Christopher On Leeds Fight
Boxer Mike Tyler Christopher experienced the first defeat of his professional career after losing on points to Portuguese Mauro Silva at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds yesterday [August 8].
Christopher [12-1] made a strong start to the eight-round middleweight contest but suffered a flash knockdown in the fourth round.
The Manchester-based Silva [10-0] earned the decision by a score of 78-75.
The bout featured on the undercard of a Boxxer/DAZN promotion, headlined by super-middleweights Callum Simpson and Troy Williamson.
“Overall, just disappointing really,” Christopher told Bernews. “I did well at the start – probably really well.
“In the fourth or fifth round, he was beginning to counter me.
“So, with that, I became hesitant to commit to attack. I was in the fight thinking about getting caught coming in.”
The 30-year-old, who picked up a toe injury during the fight, said he is keen to return to the ring as soon as possible.
“My coach [Anthony Hull] just said my manager [Jon Pegg] said to fight again ASAP,” he added. “But I need to see what the doctor says about my toe. I can’t put much weight on it.”
