BELCO Clarifies How New Rates Apply

BELCO has clarified how the new rates are applied to customers’ billing cycles, including those with solar.

In response to queries from Bernews –  as someone had expressed concern saying their latest bill covered a period that spanned a time before August 1st however they were charged the full new monthly amount rather than a prorated amount –  BELCO explained that they “do not split the charge based on the number of days before or after the new rate is implemented.”

BELCO Managing Director Shelly Leman said: “When a new rate starts, the new rate applies to the full billing cycle if the customer’s meter is read on or after the date the new rate begins.

“For example, if the new charge started on August 1 and your meter was read on August 5, the new charge would apply to all the days in that bill.

“We do not split the charge based on the number of days before or after the new rate is implemented. This is our standard practice whenever rates change, and the same rule applies to all BELCO customers, including customers with solar.

“If a customer has questions about their bill, contact our Customer Experience team on 295-5111 or info@belco.bm.”
