BHC Proposes 84 Parking Spaces In Appeal
The Bermuda Housing Corporation [BHC] has proposed leasing adjoining land to provide 84 additional car parking spaces as part of its appeal relating to the Bermudiana Beach Residences in Warwick.
The planning application sought permission to change the use of the buildings from tourism accommodation to residential units The Department of Planning decision letter raised concerns, stating that the “development exceeds the maximum permitted density of units for the site” and “has failed to demonstrate that an adequate number of independently accessible car parking spaces, with turnaround, can be provided on the site.”
BHC subsequently appealed the decision. In additional information submitted during the appeal process, BHC said the owner of the adjoining property had confirmed a willingness to lease approximately one acre of land immediately next to the development that will provide space for 84 car parking spaces.
Their letter said, “The Appellant has successfully engaged the owner of the adjoining property, who has confirmed their willingness to lease approximately one acre [45,940 square feet] of land immediately adjoining the proposed development.
“This additional land will be incorporated into the overall development proposal and has been identified for the provision of:
- 84 independently accessible car parking spaces;
- additional motorcycle parking spaces;
- Internal two-way circulation aisles;
- Turning and maneuvering areas; and
The property was originally developed as the Grand Atlantic housing development and was subsequently converted for planned hotel use. In October 2024, the Government announced that the development would instead be converted into residential rental units.
