Food Delivery Rider Ticketed At 99 Km/H
The Bermuda Police Service said speeding remained the most common offence ticketed over the weekend, with a minibus driver clocked at 81 km/h and a food delivery rider at 99 km/h.
In providing an update via social media, the police said, “Some of the top speeds this weekend – Minibus driver ticketed at 81 km/h. Food delivery rider ticketed at 99 km/h.
“Speeding remains the #1 offence being ticketed so far this weekend.
“We’re also seeing far too many motorists committing other offences, including not wearing seatbelts and using cell phones while driving.
“Our high visibility traffic initiatives will continue throughout the weekend.
“Slow down. Buckle up. Put the phone down. Get home safe.”

The mini bus driver woke up late. The delivery rider didn’t want the food to get cold. HaHa.
WOW! Given the poor roads and plethora of potholes, those speeders must have been well shaken, not stirred, driving at those speeds.
80K is about 55MPH. 99K is about 63MPH, almost an interstate speed limit. What bike is available stock capable of that speed from a local dealer. What dealer is selling aftermarket parts to increase performance to that speed?
I don’t know where you’re getting your conversion number from but it’s ’1.6′
so 80k = 50 mph and 99k = 61 and a bit
50k = 30 mph
At any rate , those delivery people are completely out of control for the most part and I will never patronize any company that turns a blind eye to what its delivery people get up to on the roads.
I get my conversions right off the dashboard of my pre digital everything vehicle that I drive in the US and Canada so the relationship between the two are very familiar. 7,900 miles worth of familiar in the past 4 months.
Can’t imagine driving a minibus on a Bermuda road at 80K! Where? The straight on Boaz Island that was once a RN runway? Just drove a road, only a little wider than a Bermuda road, 55mph limit, twists and turns, few home gates, little traffic, no shoulder a ditch either side, no walls, no hedges. One mistake, one distraction and into the ditch you go.
What was that mini bus driver thinking? I trust that there were no passengers onboard at the time.
Are you stuck in 1950s time? Interstate speeds are 80mph now. Virtually every bike ever sold in Bermuda has been capable of hitting 60mph, even 50cc bikes of the day would. You cannot drive a vehicle at high rpm everywhere so vehicles are made to go faster so that you can drive at a lower rpm which is better for mileage and engine life. Some people are more fit for retirement communities with golf carts that cannot go over 20mph.
1 kilometre + 0.621371 miles.
With that knowledge, mathematics tells us that
99 kph = 61.5 mph
80 kph = 49.7 mph
50 kph = 31.1 mph
35 kph = 21.7 mph
practically all those bikes can do 100k out the shop
Some of the minibus drivers (including the one in the story) are maniacs. I’ve seen them literally racing each other on South Shore, on both sides of the road, going around blind bends on the wrong side of the road. It’s total lawlessness.
Some say that their seatbelts don’t work properly. TCD should extend the annual car testing to testing seatbelts and fail the car until fixed.
