Greenlight Helps Five Families With BELCO Bills

Greenlight Energy’s new quarterly charity partnership, BELCO: Powering Our Community, has contributed to the June BELCO bills of five Bermudians identified by the charity HOME.

A spokesperson said, “As Greenlight’s first partner in Powering Our Community, HOME—Bermuda’s non-profit working to eradicate homelessness on the island—identified five people in genuine need of funding support earlier this summer. Greenlight provided direct, immediate relief for each, making a tangible impact at a time when the cost of living continues to put pressure on Bermuda households.”

“For the people we support, a little breathing room goes a long way,” said Denise Carey, CEO & Executive Director of HOME. “Partnerships like this one with Greenlight are exactly the kind of support that makes a real difference, and we’re grateful when others in our community choose to step up.” The initiative builds on Greenlight’s “Powering Our Seniors” campaign last November, when the company paid the BELCO bills of 10 seniors nominated by the community. When the public response made clear how much immediate need exists across the island, Greenlight decided to turn the one-off effort into an ongoing campaign—a recurring initiative partnering with a different Bermuda charity each quarter to reach those who need it most.

“We can’t control what’s driving energy costs up, but we can control how we show up for our neighbours,” said Cameron Smith, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Greenlight Energy. “That’s what Powering Our Community is about—using what we have to make a real, immediate difference for people who need it most. If you’re in a position to help, even in a small way, we’d encourage you to look for a way to do it.”

A spokesperson added, “Powering Our Community will continue on a quarterly basis throughout the year, with Greenlight partnering with a different Bermuda charity each quarter to identify people in need of support.
