Youth Enjoy Successful Summer Camp Season
Bermuda’s youth enjoyed a vibrant summer of camps and activities focused on learning, creativity, sports, friendship, and personal growth under the theme “Be Kind, Be Brave, Be Bold.”
A Government spokesperson said, “This summer, Bermuda’s youth enjoyed a successful season of camps and activities that provided opportunities for learning, recreation, creativity, and personal growth. From Camparama to summer day camps across the island, young people participated in programmes designed to build confidence, develop new skills, form friendships, and enjoy safe and engaging experiences during the school break. The programmes were guided by this year’s theme, “Be Kind, Be Brave, Be Bold”, which encouraged participants to demonstrate respect, courage and leadership throughout the summer.”
Minister of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport Owen Darrell said, “This summer’s camps and youth programmes have once again demonstrated the positive impact that sport and recreation have on the lives of our young people. These programmes provide opportunities to learn new skills, build confidence, develop lasting friendships, and stay active in a safe and supportive environment. I extend my sincere thanks to the dedicated camp staff, coaches, volunteers, and the Department of Sport and Recreation for their hard work and commitment to delivering another successful summer of programming for Bermuda’s children and families.”
A Government spokesperson added, “Throughout the summer, campers embraced every moment of this year’s dynamic calendar, which featured beloved traditions and high-energy showcases, including:
- “Camparama: The ultimate camp celebration bringing campers together for fun, games, and school-spirit style camaraderie.
- “Annual Six-A-Side Football Tournament: A fast-paced display of teamwork, athletic grit, and sportsmanship on the pitch.
- “Netball Showcase: Highlighting agility, coordination, and athletic excellence among participants.
- “Youth Art Expo: A stunning creative outlet where campers displayed their imagination, color, and artistic talent.
- “Mini Cup Match: Though the game was cut short due to inclement weather, the overall camp experience and event brilliantly reflected the unyielding enthusiasm, cultural pride, and community spirit that defined the entire summer.
“Together, these activities promoted teamwork, creativity, sportsmanship and personal achievement while providing opportunities for young people to connect with their peers.
“Government-operated camps accommodated up to 455 campers each week, while private camp operators provided opportunities for an additional 275 campers throughout the summer.
“The Ministry commends everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s summer programmes and remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthy, active, and enriching experiences for Bermuda’s young people in Bermuda.”
