Amaris Munya Places 26th In Florida
Bermudian runner Amaris Munya clocked 19 minutes and 56 seconds to finish 26th in the girls’ elite 5K at the Katie Caples Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday [Sept 19].
Competing for Montverde Academy, Munya was the school’s second finisher in the 99-runner field, helping the team place seventh with 183 points. Teammate Lyla McMillen led Montverde’s runners, finishing 22nd in 19:51.
Munya’s time was a 21-second improvement on her performance at the season-opening Florida Horse Park Invitational in Ocala earlier this month.
As Bernews previously reported, she completed that 5K course in 20:17 to finish 50th overall, helping Montverde’s girls place 13th among 49 teams.
Earlier this year, Munya also contributed to Montverde’s Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship victory. She ran the anchor leg in the school’s sixth-place finish in the girls’ 4×800-metre relay and placed 10th in the individual 800-metre final.
