Govt Release 2024 Environmental Statistics
the Ministry of Economy and Labour released the 2024 Environmental Statistics Compendium from the Department of Statistics.
A Government spokesperson said, “The Compendium is structured into thirteen sections and contains brief analyses, tables and graphs for each section. It includes more than 40 statistical tables that provide a wealth of data on Bermuda’s environmental conditions. This publication is an excellent tool for research, school projects, and promoting awareness about issues affecting Bermuda’s environment.
“Some highlights for 2023 to 2024 include:
- Hotels remained the most popular accommodation type as more than two-thirds [67.1%] of all air passengers stayed at hotels.
- Total electricity consumption in 2024 fell to approximately 517.4 million kWh from 518.0 million kWh in 2023. The residential sector accounted for just under half [45.7%] of all electricity consumed in Bermuda in 2024.
- Tuna and pelagic group remained the most popular catch at 134.4 metric tonnes [mT]. Shellfish were the only species group to record a decrease in landings, declining [25.5%] from 2023 to 2024.
- In 2024, the amount of waste totalled 101,900 mT, representing an increase of 18.1% from the 86,300 mT of waste in 2023.
- In 2024, the total number of inches of rainfall in Bermuda was 68.5. This represents an 11.4% decrease from 2023.
