Photos & Video: Rickai Raynor Memorial Race
The Rickai ‘Pugi’ Raynor Memorial Race was held in Dockyard this weekend, paying tribute to the late powerboat racer, with proceeds from the event set to benefit his children.
Raynor, 28, died from injuries sustained in a boat crash near White’s Island during the Bermuda Power Boat Association’s Hamilton Harbour Race series in June of this year.
Speaking to Bernews at the event, his father, Ricky Raynor, reflected on the difficulty of losing a child. He said that while it is very hard for a parent to bury their child, he tries to focus on “the joy and the fun we had.”
Following the event, a Bermuda Powerboat Association spokesperson said, “Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Rickai ‘Pugi’ Raynor Memorial Race today. Special thanks to our marshal boats, St Johns, our many volunteers, vendors and DJ, and of course our drivers and copilots.”
