The Scout Association of Bermuda marked St. George’s Day with its annual parade and service, recognising achievements and Scouting values.

A spokesperson said, “The Scout Association of Bermuda held its annual St. George’s Day Parade and church service on Sunday, April 26th. With sunny skies and fair winds to fly their Scout and unit flags the event was attended by Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Network Scouts, their Leaders, and former Scout Commissioners, former Deputy Commissioners, parents and supporters.

“St. George, the patron saint of Scouting, he was chosen by Scouting founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell for embodying the qualities he believed every Scout should strive for—responsibility, truthfulness, devotion to duty, courage, noble spirit, and a commitment to helping others.

“Each year, Scouts use this occasion to reflect on the Promise and Scout Law, renewing their dedication to the values at the heart of the movement.

“The parade, led by the Bermuda Island Pipe Band, made its way through the Botanical Gardens to The Peace Lutheran Church, where Pastor David Trott Sr hosted the service.

Honouring Service and Achievement

“During the service, Dr. Geoffrey Rothwell was presented with the Silver Acorn Award, one of the Good Service Awards of the UK Scout Association. The award recognizes adult volunteers who have shown exceptional commitment and long-standing service to Scouting. Dr. Rothwell addressed the congregation, speaking about the importance of friendship, helping others, and serving the community.

“Three cheers were also given for Network Scout Conor Sinclair, who earned the King Scout Award, the highest honour in youth Scouting. Conor received his award at Windsor Castle at the same time the Bermuda Scouts were gathered in service. He is the first Bermuda Scout to earn the award under King Charles III, and the first since Major Ben Beasley and Collin Anderson received the Queen Scout Award in 1998.

“Dr. Rothwell additionally presented the Chief Scout Gold Award to Rayyan Haffer and Oliver Thompson. This award recognizes Scouts who complete nine core Challenge Badges, six Activity Badges, and a meaningful personal challenge, demonstrating initiative, teamwork, commitment, nights away, and an expedition challenge.
