Sioma Rudo Earns Butterfield Scholarship
Butterfield has awarded three annual scholarships, including a $30,000 Sir Harry D. Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship to Bermudian student Sioma Rudo.
A spokesperson said, “Butterfield has awarded its annual scholarships to three promising students, including Bermudian Sioma Rudo, who has been awarded the Sir Harry D. Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship and will receive $30,000 for the upcoming academic year. These scholarships can be maintained for up to four academic years.
“Offered since 1978 in honour of Butterfield’s late Chairman, the scholarship awards Sioma $30,000 per year towards her Commerce studies at Saint Mary’s University, where she plans to major in Human Resources Management. Ms. Rudo was named Bermuda’s Overall Outstanding Young Person by the Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors at their 2026 Youth Trailblazers Out Front Awards in August.
“She is a recent graduate of both The Berkeley Institute, where she served as Deputy Head Girl, and Bermuda College, where she earned an Associate of Arts and Science with Distinction. Sioma is a keen netball, football, and basketball player and an active participant in community initiatives, including serving on the Youth Advisory Board for Bermuda’s Youth Mental Health Plan. Beyond her stellar academics, Sioma has developed a growing interest in entrepreneurship and currently operates two small businesses on the island.”

The spokesperson said, “Butterfield has awarded two further scholarships in its other core banking jurisdictions, with Johann Uy from the Cayman Islands receiving the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship to study Computer Science with Industrial Experience at the University of Manchester and Charlotte Dorey receiving the Butterfield Channel Islands Undergraduate Scholarship to study Management at ESCP Business School in Paris.
