PHC Majorettes To Perform In Washington
The PHC Majorettes & Drum Corps have been invited to perform at the Washington DC Veterans Day Parade in November.
Eligible members will perform at the National Field Show on November 7 before taking part in the Veterans Day Parade the following day.
The PHC Majorettes & Drum Corps, a charitable organisation, will represent Bermuda at the events, showcasing their talent and sharing the island’s culture and traditions with a wider audience.
Although the corps have been travelling to events since 2005, Tawana Lee, the PHC Majorettes & Drum Corps director, said it will be the first time they have performed at the event.
She added that about 45 members, including 32 performers, will be travelling to Washington.
“The age ranges of our performers range from six to 51,” Ms Lee told Bernews.
Ms Lee said they were appealing for about $25,000 in donations to help cover the costs of transport and accommodation.
They will hold a Tag Day at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick on September 26 from 7am to 7pm, having previously held Tag Days at Pronto grocery store in Hamilton and Lindo’s Market & Pharmacy in Devonshire.
“We’re very hopeful we can raise the funds needed,” Ms Lee said.
“We give back to the community on a regular basis through our performances.
“Our mission is to keep our tradition alive, while bringing through our programme who have the same vision and passion.
“We also have a Future Leaders for our young members, which encourages them to be confident, learn life skills and be a leader.
“It’s all about giving back to the community in a positive way.”
