The PHC Majorettes & Drum Corps are set to perform at the Washington DC Veterans Day Parade this weekend.

More than 30 performers, aged between six and 50, plus other members of the organisation, will leave the island tomorrow [November 5] for the event at the National Field Show on Saturday before taking part in the Veterans Day Parade the following day.

Although the corps, a charitable organisation, have been travelling to events since 2005, Tawana Lee, the PHC Majorettes & Drum Corps director, said it will be the first time they have performed at the event.

In a bid to raise funds to cover the costs of the trip, they held tag days at Lindo’s Family Foods in Warwick, the Pronto grocery store in Hamilton and Lindo’s Market & Pharmacy in Devonshire.

They also received $5,000 from the Bermuda Arts Council and received a sum from CG Insurance, which will go towards accommodation and equipment costs.

“I think we’re ready!” Ms Lee told Bernews. “The only thing we haven’t got sorted is our bass drum cases.

“We need to figure out how we’re going to pack them. We’ll figure that out!”
