‘Rockin’ Around The City Tree’ Set For Nov 27th
The City of Hamilton will host its annual Rockin’ Around the City Tree event on Friday, November 27, featuring the lighting of the Christmas tree, live entertainment, an outdoor Christmas movie screening and festive family activities.
A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton is inviting the community to celebrate the start of the festive season with the return of its much-loved Rockin’ Around the City Tree event, this year featuring a special outdoor Christmas movie screening alongside the traditional tree lighting, live entertainment and festive family fun.
“Taking place on Friday, November 27th, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the City Hall lawn, the free event, presented in partnership with Tomorrow’s Voices, promises an evening filled with Christmas cheer as the City officially welcomes the holiday season.
“The highlight of the evening will be the lighting of Bermuda’s tallest Christmas tree at 7:00 p.m., illuminating City Hall and marking the official start of the festive celebrations in the capital.
“Adding a nostalgic twist to this year’s festivities, the City will show a special screening of the 1996 holiday comedy Jingle All the Way [PG], starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m., with families encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, settle in under the stars and enjoy this Christmas classic together.
“Before the movie begins, attendees can enjoy a lively programme of entertainment, including performances by West End Primary School Choir, saxophonist Shawn Herman, Somersfield Academy Steel Pan Group, and a solo performance by City Councillor Lloyd Holder.
“Santa Claus will also make his first official appearance of the season, spreading Christmas cheer and posing for professional photographs with families. Each photo will come with a complimentary printed keepsake, giving attendees a special memento of the evening.
“Guests can warm up with complimentary hot chocolate courtesy of Ashley’s Lemonade. Tomorrow’s Voices will also be selling toys and popcorn, with proceeds supporting the charity’s important work in the community.”
City of Hamilton Senior Events Coordinator Lorna Hayward said: “The lighting of the City Hall Christmas Tree is always such a special moment for the City, and we love seeing families come together year after year to share in the excitement of the season.
“This year, we wanted to bring something a little different to the celebration, and what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than with a classic holiday movie under the stars? Between the entertainment, Santa’s visit and the lighting of Bermuda’s tallest Christmas tree, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We encourage families to bring their blankets, get comfortable and make an evening of it!”
The spokesperson said, “The City is also encouraging residents and visitors to extend their festive outing by enjoying dinner at one of Hamilton’s many restaurants or getting a head start on their Christmas shopping before heading to City Hall for the celebrations.
“Continuing its longstanding partnership with Tomorrow’s Voices – Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre, the City is pleased to once again use the occasion to support an important local cause. Since 2007, Tomorrow’s Voices has provided specialised therapy, early intervention and developmental support services to children with autism and their families in Bermuda.”
Dr. Jahnae Harvey, Executive Director at Tomorrow’s Voices, said: “We are delighted to once again partner with the City of Hamilton for this wonderful community event. Rockin’ Around the City Tree provides a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with families, raise awareness about autism and generate much-needed funds to support the children and families we serve.
“We encourage everyone to stop by our stall, pick up some popcorn or a toy, and help us make a difference while enjoying the festivities. We are grateful to the City for its continued support and look forward to celebrating the start of the Christmas season together.”
The spokesperson said, “Rockin’ Around the City Tree is free to attend, with festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m., the official tree lighting at 7:00 p.m. and the movie screening at 7:30 p.m. The event will conclude at 9:00 p.m.
