Public Beaches: Lifeguard Service Suspended

September 1, 2010

[Updated] The Department of Parks has issued an announcement saying they “regret to advise that lifeguard service has been suspended today at all public beaches. The public will be advised when lifeguard service resumes. The Department of Parks apologizes for the suspension of service.” No official information as to the reason for the suspension was released.

The Parks Department continue on to say “In the absence of lifeguards the public is urged to exercise caution and common sense and to avoid unnecessary safety risks at the public beaches.”

Update 1:23pm: Bernews unofficially understands that the suspension may be related to the unfortunate death this morning of 20-year-old Geoffrey Burns, whom we understand was a lifeguard.
