Moratorium on Mooring Piles

November 4, 2010

The Department of Marine and Ports Services wishes to advise the public that a moratorium on the installation of mooring piles is now in effect. The moratorium ends December 31, 2010.

Government says that the purpose of the moratorium is for the Department to develop a policy and guidelines pertaining to the type of installations suitable for a mooring pile, as well as what their above water height and colour should be.

(A mooring pile means a pole, post or pillar, fixed or driven into the bed of the sea, to which a boat or a ship may be moored or secured.)
