Carifta Day #1: Bermuda Win Two Medals

The 2011 Carifita Games started yesterday [Apr.23], and Bermuda has picked two medals so far, with both Kyrah Scraders and Justin Donawa winning bronze medals during the first day of competition in Jamaica. Kyrah received a bronze in the U-17 Girls 1500m and Justin a bronze in the U-17 Boys Triple Jump. Bermuda’s first competitor was Keizhari Knight competing in the U/17 Girls High Jump, Knight recorded a No Height result to finish T8th.

Rachel Fox competed in Heat 1 and Tyra Stovell competed in Heat 2 of the U/17 Girls 400m. Stovell finished 6th in her Heat and 12th overall, while Fox finished 8th in her Heat and 14th overall.

Kyle Godfrey finished 7th in Heat 1 of the U/20 Boy’s 400m Dash clocking a time of 52.36, which saw him finish 16th overall.

Bermuda’s first medal was a Bronze captured by Justin Donawa who’s leap of 13.47 saw him finish third in the Boy’s U/17 Triple Jump. Kyrah Scraders also won a Bronze Medal when she finished third in the U/17 Girls 1500m with a time of 4:52.55.

Victoria Clarke finished 4th in Heat 3 of the U/17 Girls 100m, her time of 12.59 saw her finish 15th overall, both Kyle Webb and Jaret Simmons failed to reach the U/17 Boy’s 100m Finals, Webb finished 13th overall with a time of 11.26, while Simmons was clocked at 11.58 to finish 16th overall.

Competing in the 100m Shawnae Brangman finished 11th overall with atime of 12.30, while Jer-Quan Symonds reached the U/20 Boy’s 100m Final finishing with the 6th fastest time of 10.92. In the final Symonds finished 8th with a time of 10.88. Also competing in the U/20 Boy’s 100m was Jeneko Place, who finished 14th overall with a time of 10.97.

Dage Minors finished 9th in the U/17 Boy’s 1500m clocking 4:22.96, while Taylor-Ashley Bean finished 4th in the U/20 Girls 1500m with a time of 4:51.17, Ashley Berry finished 9th in the U/20 Girls 1500m with a time of 5:02.31 and Juma Mouchette finished 8th in the U/20 Boy’s 1500m with a time of 4:17.18.
