Camp Pauulu: Summer Camp For Males

July 4, 2011

Bermuda College adjunct lecturer and experienced educator, Quinton Sherlock Jr. is inviting participants to sign up for, “Camp Pauulu”, a pilot programme targeted at middle school aged males [11 – 14 yrs old].

The camp is named after Bermuda National Hero Dr. Pauulu Kamarakafego, and has been developed as a 5-day summer camp that introduces participants to the idea of self-knowledge and the acquisition of new skills. Participants will learn about culture, history and the roles played by key individuals and groups within the Bermuda story.

The camp will incorporate creative and fun learning vehicles throughout the week. Each day participants will go out on field trips, culminating with a visit to Chewstick on the final day of the camp.

“Camp Pauulu” is also about connecting young men with an adult. To this end, in order to get into the camp each young man alongside an adult must complete a workshop, on either July 5th or July 9th. The workshops will serve as an orientation to “Camp Pauulu” for the young person and adult.

They will participate in group activities and will be provided with a workbook for the session. Workshops will be held at Chewstick Foundation Headquarters, on the corner of Elliot Street and Court Street. The workshop fee is $20. This covers the young person, adult and workbook. Students can sign-up for one of two orientation workshops by contacting the Chewstick Foundation.

The fee for the week long camp will be $60 per week. For more information, or to sign up for either of the workshops, call 292-2439 or email info@chewstick.org.
