Ministry of Education Moving To Southside
Over the course of this week the Ministry of Education Headquarters and the Department of Education will be moving from Dundonald Street to Southside. The Ministry’s new site will be located at 14 Wallers Point Road, Southside St. David’s.
Minister of Education Dame Jennifer Smith announced the move during her Budget Statement earlier this year.
At the time, Minister Smith said, “In Education, as in every Ministry, we are well aware that the times we live in require shared sacrifice as we re-position the economy to seize tomorrow’s opportunities – so we do not consider it too much of a sacrifice to give up being centrally located in the city of Hamilton, to being located a half-hour away.
“That said, we will institute a cost saving measure that also has the side benefit of uniting the Ministry and the Department of Education in one location at Southside.
“Currently, the Ministry Headquarters and Student Services are located on Dundonald Street – Finance and Human Resources on King Street – and the remainder of the Department of Education at the former Bishop Spencer School on Glebe Road, Pembroke.”
The move will take place in four phases. Phase one began this past weekend and will see one half of the Dundonald Street staff relocate. During this period of transition, the public is advised to use call 236-6904 to contact members within the Ministry of Education.

Larry, somebody was listening!!
This is a good idea, it saves costs, brings everyone under one roof and also significantly reduces the commuting time for particular senior members of the Ministry.
Good decision.
All we need now is 15 new young faces as PLP MPs and we can win an Election!
All the way!!!!
Leading by example! More businesses needs to be at south side!
Finally a good sound move MOED! Less cars in town, more people for businesses in the east end, entering a government owned facility. Maybe you can assist us in getting a regular scheduled ferry to that end…I say DPT (formerly PTB) should give all MOE employees passes for the ferry!
I second that.
