Minister Of Education’s Debate Challenge
After months of intense competition, the Minister of Education’s Debate Challenge youth tournament will reach its grand finale this weekend.
The Ministry of Education’s spokesperson said, “After months of training and preliminary debates, we are inviting the public to join us for the semifinal and final rounds, where some of Bermuda’s brightest young minds, brimming with talent, will battle it out on significant issues like banning social media and managing over-tourism.”
The spokesperson said, “The Debate Challenge is a prestigious event hosted by the Ministry of Education. It allows students between 10 and 14 years old to showcase their debate skills. Participants participated in weekly training sessions and competed in debates between October 2024 and March 2025.
“This programme is not just a competition but a learning experience. It is aimed at helping students enhance their public speaking abilities, become more confident communicators, and learn to express their opinions on important issues.”
The spokesperson added, “This is an event you do not want to miss! The energy will be high, the arguments will be sharp, and the competition will be fierce. Best of all—it’s completely free, ensuring that all residents who want to witness young people excelling in an extracurricular activity that sharpens their minds and strengthens their voices.
“We encourage residents to join us at the CedarBridge Cafeterium this Saturday, 15 March, at 1 p.m. for the semifinals. Sunday, 16 March, the finals take centre stage at 1:30 p.m., starting with the 10—to 11-year-old students debating the impact of social media, followed by the 12—to 14-year-old students tackling the big issue of overtourism. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the future leaders of Bermuda in action.”
