Three Men Arrested In Connection With Shootings

October 27, 2011

[Updated] Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva confirmed this afternoon [Oct.27] that three men were arrested in connection with two recent shooting incidents.

Commissioner DeSilva said that two men have been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting in Warwick that left a 21-year-old in the Intensive Care Unit, while one man has been arrested in connection with the shooting incident at the Trimingham Hill round-a-bout on October 5th.

Update: The relevant portion of Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva’s statement is below:

You may be aware that we arrested three men in connection with the injury shooting at a North Shore night club on the 8th October: two men have been charged and are remanded in custody.

Yesterday we arrested three more people: two men were arrested in connection with Monday’s injury shooting; and one man was arrested in connection with the shooting incident at the South Roundabout on 5th October. That now brings the total number of arrests to nine in connection with these five incidents.

It is too early to say whether any more of these men will be charged – that will come down to the strength of the evidence and a decision from the DPP. But what I can say is that the three arrests yesterday resulted from tip-offs and information from members of the public.

Immediately after Monday’s shooting we moved our mobile command vehicle to Warwick Post Office and we have had detectives and CAT officers walking the beat in the Warwick area speaking to residents and shopkeepers. Clearly our outreach to the community was worth the effort and has produced results.

Now we will hope that the evidence leads us to the conclusion of these cases. In the meantime I would like to continue our appeal to members of the community to contact the police if you have information about any of the recent shootings, or any of the open investigations, or indeed if you have any information about gangs and guns.

The Crimestoppers number is 800-8477 or you can contact us directly by telephone or in person.

Here’s to hoping they whip their butts right on front street for everyone to view!!!

    • MUFC says:

I agree but at this point they’ve ONLY been arrested. Not charged, not tried and not found guilty yet. So many are arrested and then bailed pending further investigations. Let’s hope that this a very closed case!

      • GPS says:

        @MUFC…Co-Sign!!

I’ll get excited when these COWARDS get handed their life sentences!!!

Come on BPS…let’s have CCTV on every last light pole in Bermuda!!!!…

BPS please would you start Posting Pics on your website of these COWARDS so normal people can know when we see these COWARDS and notify police that they are in areas they shouldn’t be…I’m sure this will help!!!

AHHAH we dun wan a babylon state. do you?!

        • The Iceman says:

GPS you are so smart. And the Govt needs consultants? The police need overseas help? Jesus Christmas. Oh I forgot about the bleeding hearts complaining about their good little 20+ year old babies being bothered by these preventive and positive measures. You feel me?

  2. Use them as an example!!! says:

Good job BPS – NOW, make them the example and throw the book at them. NO MORE SLAPS ON THE WRIST!!! Use these scumbags to set an example for the other little scumbags out there. Seriously, this isn’t just about personal safety anymore, this is about the financial security of our island brought to us by IB revenues as well as our dying tourism product.

USE THEM AS EXAMPLES FOR THE REST! DO THE RIGHT THING!

  3. Motts Apple Sauce says:

Some of these children(and make no mistake, that is what they are) are in need of an epic spanking.

  4. Truth (Original) says:

Well done BPS ! and well done the public. We need to keep working together to stamp out this nonsense. The kind of Bermuda that we hand over to our children depends on what we choose to do today.

  5. tricks are for kids..... says:

@ Truth(Original) “The kind of Bermuda that we hand over to our children depends on what we choose to do today”.This is somethong that should have been thought of a LONGTIME AGO as the gun violence isn’t the only thing that is destroying this island. All well and good that someone has been ARRESTED but I will only be really impressed if and when there is a CONVICTION

  6. Terry says:

I made a comment on Cancers first statement.

    It was “Why”.

Your site responded with something like your post to quick…..

    Hello…Someone already posted something.

Pat, if you don’t want me to post just bloody well say so.

    Could care less.

    • Pastor Syl says:

@ Terry: The site has problems when you press the ‘comment’ button too quickly (at least that’s how I figure it. Or maybe if you type too quickly. Happened to me a couple of times. I just go back and post again and it is accepted.

  7. L.B.F says:

Not satisfied until convicted….they may make it to the court house…but be let go afterwards.

  8. Rick Rock says:

If these scumbags make bail we really have a problem. Let’s hope the court has the sense to keep them locked up.

  9. Don't believe everything says:

Two of them are released already!! Police sometimes act on the wrong information!!

  10. MinorMatters says:

I would be more interested if the BPS said they recovered the gun! They can arrest all they want, where is the smoking gun that is the same one used in many of the shooting injuries and death????

  11. MinorMatters says:

I have a theory that many of the surviving victims (of course not those mistaken identity cases) have an idea as to who may have shot them and until the police really close in on the victims who whether you like it or not, are part of the problem, the BPS will not get any closer to solving this problem. When shooting victims refuse to name their assailants or provide relevant information then they are contributing further to the problem. Enough already!
