The start of the five-day event was initially postponed due to wind-damage to their National Sports Centre facilities caused by the gale-force gusts battering the island.
Bermuda made their first appearance in the Classic on the third day, walking away with a 24 – 7 win over the Montreal Irish. In the Plate Semi-Final the United States bested Italy 27 – 10, and in the Classic Semi-Final the Classic Lions defeated New Zealand 7-0.
On the fourth day of the Classic, Australia defeated South Africa 26 – 21 and Argentina won 17 – 10 win over Canada. On the fifth and final day, Argentina beat the Classic Lions 25-19 to win the title, while Australia beat the United States 34-24, and the Bermuda Barbarians lost 12-0 to White Plains RFC.
