Video: NTR’s Appeal For ‘Change’

January 14, 2012

No Talent Records [NTR] issued a musical appeal to Bermudians this week, reminding them it is in their power to start the island over.

NTR’s Cahlii [Eminence] Smith [pictured] and Zichari Young — two members of the youthful production team — released a Bermudianised version of the 2006 John Mayer hit “Waiting On The World To Change” in response to ongoing serious crime and gun violence on the island.

“It’s been a real emotional time for my group and music can ease a troubled mind and even produce a glimmer of hope,” said Mr. Smith. “The song basically came about when we were in the studio working on our new single ‘NTR Rock’.

“But we had to put everything on hold to express our feelings about what’s happening in Bermuda after being on Facebook seeing, day after day, people’s emotions pouring out and how they want change.”

Mr. Smith and Shomari Warner, another NTR producer, are currently working on a second version of the song — which has gone viral among Facebook users since being posted on Tuesday [Jan. 10] — featuring an original musical backing.

NTR has worked with many local performers including teen sensation Jah-Yon, producing his two recent hits “Unusual Love [Hi, Bermy Girls]“ and “Far Away”.

Full Lyrics “Waiting On My Island To Change”

I guess I’ll start it off
Saying I am disgraced
This island that I love
Will soon pass away
If we don’t make a change
Know wrong from our rights
We are so small tell me why must we fight

(Chorus)
So I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
Said Im waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
It’s hard to make a difference when everybody’s opinion is different
I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my Island to change

(Verse 1)
How can we live with our selves lately
When we hear our mothers say
I just lost my baby
Lil boy saying daddy’s gone away
It brings a tear to my eye when i see my friends cry
Pillow soaked on the floor
Because the tears wont fall anymore

(Chorus)
So I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
Said I’m waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
It’s hard to make a difference when everybody’s opinion is different
I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my Island to change

(Verse 2)
Been living here for about 20 years
Had the times of my life yea I would love to share

Proud to be Bermudian you can guarantee
But it’s changing, not for the good, rapidly

Didn’t have to wonder what came around every corner
Didn’t have to wonder if there’s people plotting on ya

Gun shots on the block like every week
Curtains cross the window scared to even take a peak

The goodness of this island’s like it’s really being tossed
The only fear I have if this beautiful place is lost

We gotta take it back to the days of the old
The days when revenge wasn’t felt it was put on hold

AH YEA GOTTA TAKE IT BACK TO THE OLD!!!!!

I hope that I will still be here to see the peacefulness
I hope that I will witness when they end the lethalness

(Outro Chorus)
So I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
Said Im waiting waiting waiting on my island to change
It’s hard to make a difference when everybody’s opinion is different
I’m just waiting waiting waiting on my Island to change

Great work Guys. Good to see young home grown male talent, and also glad to see it promoted in the media.

Continue to do great things NTR are not the ownly people waiting for change, most of the community are too.
At least you’ve taken the first step in that change, and because of that someone else will to.

  11. Erica says:

  13. theProphet says:

Great positive message, Gents. Well done and continue to be encouraged.

Be also encouraged to create your own original tunes. Until then your true talents won’t be recognized. The radios won’t play this because it is, as far as I can tell, an unauthourized cover. I happily stand to be corrected if I am mistaken. Nothing wrong with convering to help you develop your own styles, but guard against that becoming your public image–a cover artist.

I suggest you have much original material. Shape it, craft it, and entertain us with the same. There are plenty of learned musicians who would happily help you. Bless up.

  14. Joy Full says:

Well done! Refreshing to see positive young men in this gloomy time. Continue to use your talents to produce POSITIVE, encouraging, messages which are needed in these times. And do continue to work on your fully original tune. ‘Whatsoever you do, do all to the glory of the Father above & HE shall bless your works’

  15. NishaD says:

Cahlii and guys, your video and message is amazing. I REALLY hope and pray that everyone sees the video adn fully accepts the message. All the best in future songs and videos. Hope the News channels picks up the video and broadcasts it for all to see.

  16. V Pearman says:

I enjoyed this very much. Even though the subject is sad the music and lyrics are uplifting and inspire hope. I am very proud of what you have done not just because I am a proud auntie but also because you have used your God given talents and have done more than wait for the change you seek. In trying to find healing for yourselves you have reached out and shared with other hurting people. You have used your gifts to reach out and in so doing are acting as agents for change. This is what is needed. Often we are looking and waiting for someone to come and save us when we are the ones we are waiting for. Keep making music you are speaking for many and going to the souls of people. Thank you. Keep doing you.

  17. Windy Falls says:

What ever I have to say, your Aunty has said it better. Thank you for being you.
    Your friend,
    Linda
