Video: Jah-Yon’s ‘Unusual Love’

December 6, 2011

It’s not unusual to find Bermuda teen singing sensation Jahroy Richards all over the Internet these days — and his Bermudianised take on Welsh singer Tom Jones’ signature song is likely to keep him on local playlists.

The aspiring rapper — who performs under the name Ja-Yon — released his version of the 1965 classic “It’s Not Unusual” this week, complete with an official music video which is already threatening to go viral in Bermuda.

“It’s Not Unusual Love” was written by Les Reed and Gordon Mills and first recorded by a then-unknown Tom Jones and reached the number one spot in the US and UK singles charts.

“Unusual Love [Hi, Bermy Girls]“  is the second release from the prolific Ja-Yon in recent weeks.

Last month the Chewstick favourite posted a music video to accompany his cover version of the chart-topping“Far Away”, an international hit earlier this year for superstar Tyga and “American Idol” finalist Chris Richardson

Describing himself as “an up-and-coming 15 year old rapper from the island of Bermuda who’s all about the music and making his way up”, the secondary school student’s Mister B-produced version of “It’s OK To Cry” received hundreds of hits among Bermuda Facebook users when it was released as an on-line tribute to to 18-year-old murder victim Malcolm Outerbridge.

The “Unusual Love” video was shot at various locations around the island and features the teen singer and his friends Brandi Michelle Smith and Courtney Dublin. The song was produced by No Talent Records.
