New Governor Arrives In Bermuda

May 22, 2012

[Updated with video] Governor Designate George Fergusson arrived in Bermuda at approximately 6.20pm this evening [May 22] on board the British Airways flight from London. Mr Fergusson will become Bermuda’s 88th Governor, taking over from Sir Richard Gozney who served as Bermuda’s Governor for four and a half years.

Mr Fergusson’s last overseas posting was as the British High Commissioner to New Zealand and Samoa and Governor of Pitcairn, and he also served as Consul-General in Boston. The 56-year-old diplomat recently recuperated from an attack in London last month which resulted in the loss of sight in his left eye.

Several dignitaries were at the airport to greet Mr Fergusson including Deputy Governor David Arkley, Premier Paula Cox, Chief Justice Ian Kawaley, Leader of the Opposition Craig Cannonier, Cabinet Secretary Donald Scott, Commanding Officer of the Bermuda Regiment Lt. Col. Brian Gonsalves, Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva and Airport General Manager Aaron Adderley.

Tomorrow morning Mr. Fergusson will be officially become Bermuda’s Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Bermuda Regiment at a Swearing-in Parade on the grounds of the Cabinet Office beginning at 11:00am.

    • Can you feel it? says:

Yup, feel the love!! Welcome to Bermuda! Get used to it.

    • 50 Cent says:

You do realize the Governor was robbed and lost an eye in his home country right? What does a shooting and the time after he got here have to do with anything? Pretty sure unlike you numskulls he knows crime is everyone and I’m pretty sure he won’t be robbed here like he was in his country.

      • Welcome to 'paradise' says:

Sure he won’t worry about a personal incident of robbery committed against him.
He’s got bigger things to worry about …Maybe like a previous gov who was assasinated ? ?

Oh, but don’t worry that happens everywhere in the world ,especially in places that still like to claim they’re ‘safe’ and all that other brainwashed stupidness .

        • 50 Cent says:

What in the hell are you rambling on about? How long ago was the governor in Bermuda assassinated? 30 something years ago?

You don’t think Bermuda is safe? Then I’d like to know your idea of safe. Compared to places where people are kidnapped in grocery stores parking lots, places where children are snatched from stores raped, murdered and then dumped in the woods. You are probably afraid of your own shadow lmao!

          • Welcome to 'paradise' says:

Keep accepting mediocrity . Keep lowering the standards. Keep making excuses. Keep comparing us to places with activities that most of us would never ever have accepted 30 years ago.

You may think it’s ok and fine but us ‘snobs’ as you’ll probably label me will never accept it as some sort of worldwide progress. When all of your other stupid comparisons are finally here on our doorsteps who will you then say we are worse than ?
It’s regression plain and simple so keep ‘lmao’ simpleton.
You’re not alone in your reasons for liking all of this stuff unfortunately. And you can try and defend that all you wish but we’re not stupid.

      • jt says:

So long as you’re OK with things mate.
